Art as Healer

A Force to Reckon With

In the painting, called Mother Earth, four older women are shown performing a ritual dance. Two women are wearing orange wigs covered in white paste, symbolizing death, while the other two are wearing black wigs covered in green paste that symbolizes life. This dance is representative of a fictional cultural celebration, with an Afrocentric theme, that holds significance for women's biological cycle and their connection to the earth's seasonal cycles.

Art s Healer shown here as a Challenged Faces conveys the inner turmoil seeking answers

Are you feeling lost and confused? Do you fear that your choices will be used against you? Are you struggling to find hope in the darkness? Don’t be afraid. Listen to yourself and trust your instincts. You have the power to see the truth.

Do not let your spirit deceive you. Your past, present, and future do not define you. You are in control. You can find peace and silence within yourself. Trust that your hands will reveal the truth, and your eyes will see what you seek.

Believe in yourself. Do not let envy or fear hold you back. You have the strength to overcome any obstacle. Your mind can be a place of tranquility and peace. Trust yourself, and you will see that the truth is within your reach.

However, truth Known or Unknown it is where I am.

The curvature of time appears too often and surely more than I care to stare at, as it never has an end as it comes once again.

Am I looped into a similar spot? I am placed here again, but not at a transparent location, so it is undoubtedly not that I am on vacation.

Nights overlap into days where I appear only to have turned afoot but rarely away.

So I moved to an apartment at the end of the block to avoid the corners where the beginning begins, and then there is the other over there.

During my slumbering restraint from beginning to end, I met a girl. Although she took me in the rain, she went alone there to meet another; she said, “Sometimes she meets with her mother?”

I often match the socks I wear to change the color of my door, lower the shades to block the sun and keep all the lights on during the day, but I still feel dark inside anyway.

It’s August 24, 2017, and the sky brings light to the blackbirds that come around this time of year, yet every year. This memory leads me to another than another. As a child, I could barely spell, not alone find my toys, and barely knew the difference between a dime and a nickel or between clouds and smoke. I have broken memories never connected about being a child, a teenager, and once a young man. Some memories are vivid, like being in the lunch line in elementary school or standing in the hall listening to two boys talking about football. A memory of avoiding fights and being in fights, so many memories come to mind as fast as they leap to another. I wonder what I am doing right now. Am I dying to make room for another life or day, or am I regressing, possibly stuck because I am unwilling to move forward? On the other hand, is it of all my memories the same that I look afar off for too long into the sky that I imagine doing something I will never be able to repeat?

Lurking Pleasure represents the pursuit of lust and it requires to capture one's desire. Centered is a woman with a cat symbolizing her virginal area. While men attempt to come closer, they must first defeat their lustful desire.
