Oil Paintings

African American Visual Artist

Drawing and painting are among humanity's oldest storytelling methods, reflecting historical and contemporary events. Images from centuries past, which originally depicted ancient tales, are now appreciated as art. The creators of these stories have also gained recognition as visual artists. Even though storytelling traditions remain influential, the focus has shifted towards painting techniques. While modern works continue to depict historical or current events, many artists are exploring innovative ways to express creativity and remain drawn to historical reasons to create.

Creativity illuminates emerging stories and the more profound significance of creating art. I admire ancient caves and master artists who narrate stories and chart creative movements. However, not every painting I make tells a story. You might connect with one of my paintings and discover or even weave your narrative around it. That narrative will be a beautiful part of why you incorporate my paintings into your life, especially when they resonate within your heart.

In the painting, called Mother Earth, four older women are shown performing a ritual dance. Two women are wearing orange wigs covered in white paste, symbolizing death, while the other two are wearing black wigs covered in green paste that symbolizes life. This dance is representative of a fictional cultural celebration, with an Afrocentric theme, that holds significance for women's biological cycle and their connection to the earth's seasonal cycles.
